Desert truffles, or Kamā in Arabic, are a distant cook-able non – Tuber relative of the European truffle. It consists of a creamy/white skin, resembling that of a lobed potato. It grows in spring in desert climates and is collected by local Bedouins; so no dogs or pigs are used. The desert truffle is widely believed in the Middle East to be spawned by lightning and a clap of thunder.
